ChristJitsu Spiritual Training Curriculum
Just as most martial arts schools use ranks to signify a person’s development, ChristJitsu uses belt ranks to keep track of your progress as you complete this course of study. As a student of ChristJitsu you move up in rank with the completion of each lesson. The first nine lessons are what are known as the beginner ranks. In the beginner ranks you will move from white belt to orange belt and onto yellow belt as you learn some of the foundational truths of the Christian faith. The next nine lessons are what are known as the intermediate ranks. During the intermediate ranks you will move from gold belt to purple belt and onto blue belt as go beyond the basics and begin to build upon the foundation that was laid in the beginner ranks.  The final nine lessons are known as the advanced ranks. As you move from green belt to brown belt and onto red belt you will be challenged to be doers of the Word not just hearers as you live out your Christian faith.

Each lesson is designed to take one month to complete and is made up of four parts.

The Warm-up - The first part of each lesson is the warm-up. During the warm-up you will read a small devotional to help prepare your mind for the next section of the lesson. The warm-up is designed to get you thinking about how you can use God’s word to “fight the good fight of the faith…” (1 Timothy 6:12) inside the Cage of Life.

The Workout - The workout is the next section you will encounter in your lesson. During this part of the lesson you will be asked to look up scripture and record what the Holy Spirit is showing you during your workout. The key is to not rush through the workout, break it up over the course of the month and take it all in.

Extra Conditioning - The extra conditioning section is designed to help you go deeper into the material covered during the workout section.  You will want to make sure you have completed the workout section before you dive into the extra conditioning section.

The Cool Down - The cool down section is the last part of the lesson. It is designed to give you time to reflect on what God has revealed to your during your warm-up and workout.

There are three primary ways in which you can go through the ChristJitsu material. Below you will find explanations on how to go through the course as an individual, a Bible study group and as the biblical material for your martial arts school.

Individual – To go through the ChristJitsu manual as an individual simply purchase a beginner manual and get started. While you can go through the material on your own we encourage you to find at least one individual to go through the course with you. Take a look at what the Bible has to say about having someone walk along side you. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!”

Bible Study Group – Going through the ChristJitsu material as part of New a Believers class or small group Bible study is a great way to grow in your understanding of the Christian faith and in your own personal walk with God. All of our promotional packages include a DVD with the material you will need to announce to your friends, church and community the start of your ChristJitsu study group. We recommend meeting weekly and discussing a few questions from the lesson. At a minimum your group will need to meet monthly to go over the material since each lesson is designed to take one month to complete. The benefit of meeting weekly is that it will help you to hold one another accountable to spending time in God’s word and growing in your understanding of the Christian faith.

Martial Arts School – If you have been looking for a more systematic way to deliver biblical curriculum to your students, look no further. ChristJitsu is the perfect way to help your students grow in their Christian faith as they grow as martial artist.  All of the lessons are designed to be one per month so as not to overwhelm the students or instructors whey trying to get it doe along with everything else they are doing in class. All beginners go through the same material at the simultaneously. The same process is followed for the intermediate and advanced ranks. This keeps the process streamlined for the classroom and helps keep the instructor from going crazy dealing with all of the students working on different lessons throughout the month.

Here is how it would work if someone started with you while you were on lesson one. Once signed up for classes the student receives a copy of the ChristJitsu manual and is told to begin working on the first lesson. They are encouraged to do a little everyday or every other day. The lesson is not meant to be done all in one setting, although that can easily be done. Your desire should be that students take their time and allow the Holy Spirit to teach them new things as they grow in their faith. While students are working on the monthly lesson they should also start learning the new memory verse found at the top of the lesson.  Make the lesson due at the end of the month. At the end of the month students must bring their manuals in to be signed off on by an instructor. If they do not bring it in they should not be allowed to test for their next stripe or belt within your physical art. This affords you the opportunity to teach your students about responsibility. It is suggested that you do not accept lessons from anyone until the last week of the month. If a student brings it in early ask them to take it back home and read over the lesson again until it is time to bring it into class.

Once students are working on their manuals instructors can review the material in class as part of the daily mat chats. Here one way you can incorporate the review process into the classroom structure.

During class instructors should ask students if they have memorized their memory verse listed at the top of the lesson. Call on a few students to stand up and recite the verse in front of the class. You should also take a few minutes from time to time to go over the verse and what it means by breaking it down into language your students can understand. (Reviewing the memory verse does not have to take place every class but should occur a few times throughout the month.) The primary review should be done by the instructor by picking any question from the lesson that month and discussing it with the class. This can be as short or as long as you would like to make it. Typically, 2 to 5 minutes is sufficient to cover any given question. Simply pick a question and ask students what they think it means or how it relates to the main topic of the lesson. This format does not require any additional planning or study material provided the instructor has completed the lesson for themselves.

We also recommend that you allow your students to purchase a ChristJitsu patch to display on their uniform. The key is to make them earn the right to wear the patch. Most schools using the ChristJitsu material require a student to be able to recite all 66 books for the Bible in order before they can purchase the patch. This is a great motivator for the kids and they are proud to wear their new patch and show off their accomplishment.

What to do if someone joins and you are no longer on lesson one. One of the great things about the ChristJitsu material is that you can use it as a rotating curriculum. If you have someone sign up and you are no longer on lesson one, simply have they start on whatever lesson you are working on that month. If it is lesson three, than they start on lesson three. The idea is that as a beginner they must go through all nine lessons in the beginner manual before moving onto the intermediate manual. So they are starting with lesson three the order would be as follows; 3,4,5,6,7,8,9,1 and 2. When they have completed all nine lessons they are ready to move up to the intermediate manual. Doing it this way is merely a suggestion, however it does help to keep it less confusing for the instructors since the maximum number of lessons you would have going on at any one time would be three; one beginner, one intermediate and one advance.

Regardless of a students rank in your physical art they all start out as beginners in ChristJitsu. That means that for the first nine months you will only be working with one lesson each month. By the 10th month you should have students that are ready to move into the intermediate manual and those that are not ready yet will rotate back through the beginner manual. The same is true for the advanced manual that would start in the 19th month. With the ChristJitsu program you will have a total of 27 months work of solid biblical curriculum
